  • Armenia offers visitors a wealth of historical monuments, fine mountain scenery and warm hospitality. This introductory tour includes visits to Zvartnots Cathedral, Echmiadzin, and the spiritual heart of the country in the monasteries of Khor Virap, Sanahin, Haghpat and Noravank.

Itinerary

Fly to Yerevan. Arrive into Yerevan and transfer to the Metropole Hotel or similar for 7 nights.

Full day city tour of the capital of Armenia, including Republic Square, Mayr Hayastan and Tsitsernakaberd monument and museum. (B, L, D)

Morning drive to the town of Ashtarak, which is flanked on two sides by Mount Aragat and Mount Ara. Visit the Karmravor church, dating back to the seventh century, which is the most impressive structure in the city with its red domed roof and intricate carvings located inside. Continue to Amberd, home to an old fortress looking out over the Ararat plains, renowned for never having had its walls breached. (B, L, D)

Morning drive to the city of Alaverdi followed by visits to the monasteries of Sanahin and Haghpat, two Unesco world heritage listed buildings dramatically located on opposing mountainous spurs. (B, L, D)

Drive to visit the Khov Virap monastery, a famous pilgrimage site close to the Turkish border. Continue to view the Noravank Monastery and return to Yerevan for the afternoon at leisure. (B, L, D)

Full day tour to Lake Sevan, to visit the Sevanavank Monastery. Continue to the mountain village of Gosh, where the Goshavank monastic complex was founded in 1188. The houses within the complex are well preserved and contain carved crucifixes and old Armenian inscriptions. After lunch, visit the Noraduz, which hosts the an excellent collection of khachkars. Morning visit to the ruins of Zvartnots Cathedral and the seventh-century Temple of Heaven Angels. Return to Yerevan to visit the National History museum. (B, L, D)

Morning visit to the Roman temple of Garni, followed by Geghard Monastery, which was carved into solid rock. (B, L, D)

Early morning transfer to the airport and fly to your next destination.
