Day 1 : Fly to Reykjavik • Hveragerði
Fly to Keflavik airport. Pick up your hire car and drive to Reykjanes peninsula on the southern coast and the town of Hveragerði (2 hours 15 minutes). Overnight at the Örk Hotel for 1 night (Family or double rooms). After your journey, relax in the hotel's geothermal pool.
Day 2 : Gullfoss • Geysir • Thingvellir • Borgarfjordur
Drive 40 minutes to the small geothermal village of Reykholt, where you can pick up a small birch plant. Continue 25 minutes to the impressive Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area before taking a moment to plant your tree in the Iceland Travel grove located in the Haukadalur valley. Continue for 50 minutes to Thingvellir National Park, a Unesco world heritage site renowned for its many geological wonders. From here, drive along the scenic Hvalfjordur (meaning 'whale fjord') to Bjarteyjarsandur, a working horse and sheep farm where you can stop for a visit or even participate in farm activities. Continue further into west Iceland, arriving at Borgarnes after 1 hour 20 minutes. Visit the Settlement Centre, which explores the history of Iceland's early settlement by Nordic Vikings. Stay at the Fosshotel Reykholt for 1 night (Family or double rooms). (B)
Day 3 : Reykholt • Haafell Goat Farm • Saelingsdalur
Today, drive through Borgarfjordur and visit the town of Reykholt. Continue to Hraunfossar, a fascinating series of waterfalls created by streams flowing over a lava flow, before visiting nearby Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring (45 minutes). On your westward route, stop at a dairy farm to taste the freshly made ice cream and pay a visit the Haafell goat farm, where your family can take part in the protection of this rare Icelandic goat breed by adopting a goat for one year. Continue for 1 hour 25 minutes to the Laugar Hotel Edda for 2 nights (Family or double rooms). (B)
Day 4 : Eiriksstadir • Stykkisholmur
Drive for 1 hour 50 minutes along the coastal route to the town of Stykkisholmur with a detour to Eiriksstadir to see the replica Viking longhouse of Erik the Red and his son Leif Eiriksson. On arrival in Stykkisholmur, explore the town centre or perhaps join a boat tour on Breidafjordur Bay to spot the plentiful bird and marine life. Overnight in Stykkisholmur at the Fosshotel Stykkisholmur (Family or Deluxe rooms). (B)
Day 5 : Snaefellsnes peninsula • Reykjavik
Make an early start to drive to the Snaefellsnes peninsula (2 hours 15 minutes), an area of outstanding natural beauty. Make a stop at the shark museum at Bjarnarhofn farmstead, a leading producer of fermented shark meat - a local dish. Continue to the beach near the farm of Ytri Tunga to see the curious seal colonies that climb up onto the rocks. Drive to Reykjavik (2 hours 30 minutes) and overnight at the Reykjavik Natura Icelandair Hotel (Family or Deluxe rooms)
Day 6 : Departure
Transfer to Keflavik airport (45 minutes) and return your hire car. Fly to your next destination. (B)
