Highlights of Central Spain, Salamanca & Toledo

Fly to Madrid, pick up your hire car at the airport and drive to Segovia. Explore the old town of Segovia and it's Roman aqueduct, the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso with its 18th-century palace and gardens, and Riofrio Palace. Continue to the picturesque town of Avila to explore its immense medieval walls, the Alcázar and the splendid San Vicente gates. Drive to Salamanca and stay at the Parador de Salamanca for 2 nights.

 

Full day at leisure to explore the city’s impressive architecture including the Plaza Mayor, which is the grandest and largest square in Spain, the old and new cathedrals, which combine gothic, baroque and Renaissance stonework, and the well-preserved Roman bridge across the River Tormes. (B)

 

Morning at leisure for further exploration of Salamanca. In the afternoon, drive to Toledo and stay at the San Juan de Reyes Hotel for 2 nights. (B)

Known as the ‘city of three cultures’ because Christians, Arabs and Jews lived here in harmony for centuries, behind its walls Toledo preserves an impressive artistic and cultural legacy in the form of churches, palaces, fortresses, mosques and synagogues.
