Day 1 : Fly to Bali

Days 2-3 : Bali
Arrive in Bali and transfer to the St. Regis Bali Resort for a 2-night stay. The following day is at leisure.
 
Day 4 : Board the Silver Discoverer
Today you will board the Silver Discoverer vessel for your 14-night cruise. Begin cruising west towards Java through the Indian Ocean. (B, L, D)
 
Day 5 : Mount Bromo, Java
Arrive in Probolinggo around noon, then disembark for a hike or pony ride on Mount Bromo (2,392 metres) in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Mount Bromo has an incredible setting in the Tengger caldera, surrounded by the ‘Sea of Sand’ with sulphurous smoke rising from Mount Bromo with Mount Semeru smoking in the distance. (B, L, D)
 
Days 6-7 : Madura
A special dance will be performed to welcome you on arrival at Sumenep, a sleepy town located on the eastern side of the island of Madura. Explore the surrounding countryside where a number of traditional arts and crafts are still practiced, including the production of keris (daggers), batik and Karduluk-style woodcarving. A visit may also be made to the Keraton (palace) and its tiny museum, and the Great Mosque built in 1763. The following day is spent cruising along Java’s north coast. (B, L, D)
 
Days 8-9 : Ujung Kulon National Park, Java • Anak Krakatoa
This morning the ship will arrive at the south-west tip of Java to visit the Unesco world heritage site of Ujung Kulon National Park, which contains some of Java’s last remaining lowland rainforest. Over lunch, Silver Discoverer heads into the Sunda Strait to reach the area of one of the most dramatic volcanic eruptions in history. During the afternoon, land on Anak Krakatoa, a volcano that rose above sea level in 1930 where Krakatoa originally stood and has grown continuously since the 1950s. The following day is at sea, heading along the south-eastern end of Sumatra. (B, L, D)
 
Day 10 : Sumatra
Arrive today in Padang, then board a coach for the drive inland to Cupek, a Minangkabau village in Sumatra’s interior. This region of west Sumatra’s lush highlands is the ancestral homelands of the Minangkabau, a Malay ethnic group thought to be the largest matrilineal society in the world. Here you will see traditional Minangkabau buildings constructed with local Surian wood, notable for their arched, buffalo-horn shaped roof and walls woven of bamboo. A welcome dance will be performed, followed by a cooking demonstration and the chance to learn how to prepare the spicy rending dish. (B, L, D)
 
Day 11 : Batu islands
Visit the Batu islands, a group of 51 islands that have a close connection to the Nias islands. The Batu islands are generally low and forested, mostly with coconut palms for copra production. A stop will be made at a small village to gain an insight into local life, Birdwatching, hiking and a zodiac cruise may also be available. (B, L, D)
 
Day 12 : Nias islands
Today will be spent exploring the Nias islands, home to the fierce Nias islanders whose life was once structured by different ceremonies recognizing stages throughout life that required animals to be slaughtered or enemies killed. Visit the local village of Bawomataluo, currently on Indonesia's national ‘Tentative List for nomination as a Unesco world heritage site’, where you will be met by the king of the village and enjoy a cultural performance including traditional dancing. Bird watchers should look out for a range of species in the countryside, including the colourful stork-billed kingfisher. (B, L, D)
 
Day 13 : Simeulue islands
Silver Discoverer will be at anchor today in the Simeulue islands, a group of 57 islands that are home to more than 80,000 people who make a living largely from farming and fishing. Disembark at Big Simeulue, the largest island at 100km long, which is densely forested in places and where the inhabitants still live a traditional lifestyle. The islands are known for black magic, practiced by dukun, shaman or healers that can cause damage and heal. Cultural events include performances of nandong (poetry singing) and debus, or traditional dancing. (B, L, D)
 
Days 14-15 : Pulau Weh • Banda Aceh, Sumatra
Located above the very northern tip of Sumatra, the island of Pulau Weh and its main port of Sabang used to be an important coaling station. In the morning take a guided walk through Sabang’s old town area to see Dutch colonial buildings, then continue to the geothermal and volcanic Valley of Jaboi. Return to the ship for lunch then continue to Banda Aceh, which came to the world’s attention in 2004 when it was devastated by a tsunami. Here you can still see PLTD Apung, a former floating power plant that was moved by the tsunami several kilometres inland despite its weight of more than 2,400 tonnes. A visit will also be made to the Aceh Tsunami Museum. The following day is spent cruising along the north-east coast of Sumatra. (B, L, D)
 
Days 16-17 : Gunung Leuser National Park, Sumatra
Disembark this morning in Belawan, Sumatra’s busiest port and an important hub for container ships exporting coffee, tea along and other produce. Belawan is the gate to Gunung Leuser National Park, an area of some 9,000 sq km that is part of Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra. Here you will visit the Bukit Lawang Visitor Centre to learn about the flora and fauna of the park, then hike in the jungles surrounding the former Bohorok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, which has released more than 200 orang utans back into the wild. The orang utans can still sometimes be seen in the tree canopy, possibly along with eight other primate species present in the park. Take lunch locally then return to Silver Discoverer in the late afternoon. The following day is at sea, crossing the Malacca Strait towards Thailand. (B, L, D)
 
Day 18 : Phuket
Arrive back at the harbour in Phuket, where you will be met and taken to the Aleenta Phuket Resort & Spa for an overnight stay. (B)
 
Day 19 : Departure

If you Cancel your Holiday
You or any member of your party may cancel their travel arrangements at any time. Written notification or an e-mail to that effect from the person who made the booking must be received at our office. The cancellation charges applicable are as per the published cancellation policy below:
 
Cancellation charges per person
  • 80 days or more before date of departure: 25% of total cost
  • 79 - 60 days before date of departure: 50% of total cost
  • 59 - 20 days before date of departure: 75% of total cost
  • 19 - 1 days before date of departure: 100% of total cost
If we change or cancel your holiday
  • We do plan the arrangements in advance. It is unlikely that we will have to make any changes to your travel arrangements.
  • Occasionally, we may have to make changes and we reserve the right to do so at any time. If there are any changes, we will advise you of them at the earliest possible date.
  • We also reserve the right under any circumstances to cancel your travel arrangements by assigning reasons to you.
  • If we are unable to provide the booked travel arrangements due to reasons beyond our control (e.g. bad weather):We shall first try to offer alternative dates for the tour if the tour hasn’t already commenced.
  • If the tour has already commenced, then we shall refund the booking price/fee charged to you on a pro-rata basis depending on the portion of the tour utilized by you.
  • In all circumstances, however, our liability shall be limited to refunding to you the price we charged as tour fees.
If you want to change your holiday plan
After confirmation of services, if you wish to change your travel arrangements in any way (e.g. your chosen departure date or accommodation), we will do our utmost to make these changes but it may not always be possible. Any request for changes must be in writing from the person who made the booking. All cost incurred due to amendment will be borne by you.
 
If you have a complaint
If you face any problem during your holiday, please inform the relevant supplier (e.g. your hotelier, transporter etc.) and/or our representative immediately who will endeavour to set things right. If your complaint is not resolved locally, please follow this up within 28 days of your return home by writing to us, with your booking reference and all other relevant information. However, please be advised that while we are happy to assist you in the redressal of your complaint, if any, we will be able to extend only our best efforts in managing/coordinating your complaint with the respective service provider. All third party service providers are independent contractors who are at no time under our control or supervision.
