After being picked up from your hotel in Jaisalmer, you'll head southeast of the city walls to Lake Gadi Sagar. Built in the 14th century, the tank was the city's main source of water until 1965, and its significance is honoured by a number of temples and sanctuaries located around it. Admire their intricately carved architecture and the reflections in the calm waters.
Continuing your stroll from the lake, you'll reach the Jaisalmer Museum and Cultural Centre, before making your way to the Tazia Tower, a five-storied structure whose levels represent replicas of different Imam's mausoleums, making it an incredible example of Muslim architecture in the state of Rajasthan.
The next stop on your private tour will be a visit to the Thar Heritage Museum, an excellent place to learn all about the culture and history of the Golden City thanks to its intriguing collection of local artefacts. Having explored the museum, see more of Jaisalmer's glorious architecture as you wander past honey-coloured sandstone palaces and stately homes, known as havelis, including the Amar Singh Palace; the Medir Palace; the Bada Bagh garden complex, home to the Royal Tombs; Patwon-ki-Haveli and Salim Singh-ki-Haveli.
It wouldn't be a tour of Jaisalmer without a visit to its stunning fortress, one of the Rajasthani city's main attractions. One of very few remaining living forts left in the world, the warm golden walls of the 800-year-old citadel are home to a quarter of the city's population. Explore its winding lanes and admire the ornate decorations of the temples and houses there, before heading to the fascinating Jaisalmer War Museum, after which your private tour will end.
